Dynamos have welcomed the 2014 Caf Champions League draw where they will play Botswana giants Mochudi Center Chiefs in the preliminary round.
The first leg would be played on the weekend of 7-9 February in Harare while the return leg comes two weeks later in Botswana.
The Harare giants are smiling after avoiding North Africans who have haunted them for the past three seasons where they have failed to reach the group stages.
If they sail past Center Chiefs, Dynamos will play the winner between Congolese side AS Vita and Nigeria’s Kano Pillars in the first round.
A likely date with Kaizer Chiefs in the second round is there if the South Africans manage to power themselves past Black Africa of Namibia and the winner between Mozambican giants Liga Macilimana and CNAPS of Madagascar.
Dynamos manager Richard Chihoro however said they will not take Center Chiefs lightly.
“This is a fair draw and we have good chances of going all the way to the group stages. We are however not underrating the Botswana team because there are no small teams in this world. Right now we have to prepare well for the Champions League,” Chihoro said.
The last time Dynamos met a Botswana side was in 2010 when they emphatically beat Gaborone United in the Champions League first round as they went on to reach the mini-league phase.
The last three seasons has seen North Africans denying Dynamos a place in the group stages as they fell to MC Algiers of Algeria in 2011, before bowing out to Esperance in the second round last year and this year’s first round exit to another Tunisian side CA Bizertin.
