HARARE - Zanu-PF primary elections in Mashonaland East province have ended in some constituencies while in some areas which had logistical challenges the process continued until noon.
In Marondera Central constituency, Mashonaland East provincial chairman, Ray Kaukonde who belongs to the Mujuru faction emerged the winner.
Kaukonde 634, Mutongi 0, Spoilt 0. Hwedza North - Kaukonde 661, Mutongi 54, spoilt 2. Mudzi North - Kaukonde 1375, Mutongi 144, spoilt 5. Mudzi West - Kaukonde 1254, Mutongi 370, spoilt 3. Murehwa West - Kaukonde 1507, Mutongi 7.
Voting has ended in Masvingo and results are expected to be announced tomorrow. Elections supervisor Nicholas Goche says voting went well with few instances of disturbances.
Violence broke out at Mudavanhu primary school in Masvingo after two voting registers were produced. Riot police and the provincial election supervisor Nicholas Goche had to be called to restore order.
Voting has officially ended here in UMP. Returning officer at the constituency command centre at Mutawatawa Zanu-Pf district HQ cde Boniface Karoro, who is Zanu-PF central member refused to comment on the elections, citing a gag order by Provincial team leader Obert Mpofu. Information gleaned by the Herald showed Ray Kaukonde in massive lead against his rival Philemon Mutongi.
